Position: Special Education Teacher at GABS Academy

 

GABS Academy is a private school located in Jamison, PA with openings for Special Education teachers for the 2020-2021 School Year. GABS Academy is inspired by a child’s potential and focused on meeting their individual needs through evidence-based practices. Programming centers around scientifically validated ABA approaches that incorporate academic, social, functional, and behavioral goals. GABS Academy believes in working with the whole child to transition them back to their home community of learners through collaboration with local school districts and the family.

GABS Academy is opening in a brand new building with a small student to teacher ratio, year long training (including ABA training), and a full time BCBA on site. We are looking for teachers to fill Pre-K through 6th grade classrooms. Come join our awesome team!

Certifications/Licensure: K-5 or K-12 PA Special Education Certification required. Autism
Certification or ABA training preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Collaborate with students, parents, and other members of staff to develop IEP for each student assigned.
2. Implement an instructional, therapeutic, or skill development program for assigned students and show written evidence of preparation as required.
3. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
4. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan for instructional activities.
5. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by IEP.
6. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and capabilities of each student assigned.
7. Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
8. Use technology in teaching/learning process.
9. Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
10. Provide or supervise personal care, medical care, and feeding of students as stated in
IEP.
11. Be a positive role model for students; support mission of school district.
12. Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.

13. Manage student behavior using positive behavior supports.. This includes intervening in crisis situations and utilizing crisis management skills for students as necessary according to IEP.
14. Consult district and outside resource people regarding education, social, medical, and personal needs of students.
15. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
16. Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials as required.
17. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, Director, and teachers.
18. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
19. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
20. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
21. Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for special education teachers.
22. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents.

Basis & Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. The ability to support students in trained Crisis procedures that may include restraints.
  • Must be able to receive detailed information through oral communication.
  • Must have visual acuity to read and comprehend written communication through computer, electronic devices, and paper means.
  • This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

  • School Personnel Health Form (Physical and TB test)
  • PDE 6004 Form (Act 24)
  • Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Release Form(s) (Act 168)
  • CPR certification
